RAGBRAI Day 7 West Union to Lansing 67 miles

RAGBRAI is over. We had a fabulous time with old friends and made some new ones. Weather continued to be outstanding. In fact, I was downright cold this morning when we started out. Note to self....always bring a warm set of clothes even if you are riding in Iowa in July. Lots of climbs (almost 3000 ft.) including "Mt. Gunder" (a long steady climb of about 1 1/2 miles).  After finishing in Lansing, we dipped our front tires in the Mississippi (a RAGBRAI tradition) and started the long drive home to FL and escape the freezing cold of Iowa. At least the Iowan hospitality remained warm. See you next year Iowa. We plan to make this an annual trip, God willing.

I just gotta say our group of Amelia riders along with the thousands of others "dodged a (hot) bullet" this year at RAGBRAI.  I had looked at the temperatures in Iowa a couple of days before the ride (upper 90s) and just looked at next week's forecast (90s all week and 100 degrees next Tuesday).  You must have done something right to have been given such gorgeous weather for the precise 7 days of the ride!

More important than the weather, it sounds like everyone had a wonderful time!  Safe travels home!

-JIM
