to Amelia Island Cycling
All,
30 hungry riders showed up today to whet their appetites for
today’s Thanksgiving feast. With temps in the upper 60s, a
bashful sun trying to peek through the forever clouds and our
old friend the north wind still hanging around, conditions were
near perfect for a dash around the island before dinner. Green
bean casseroles here we come!
After yet another stirring rendition of the safety brief, the team
took off and devoured the north end of the island. After the
turn off of Atlantic, several groups gobbled up the few miles
leading in and out of the Fort. Visions of roasted turkey with
all the trimming must have driven them on as they consumed
the miles. After exchanging recipes and menus during our
break at the Fort, the fast group scarfed up tons of turf as
their thoughts focused on mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing
and cranberries. The hunt was on!
As talk turned to pumpkin pie, sweet potato pies and other such
goodies, the gang roused themselves from their break at the
dog park and ingested the distance between there and their
various end points. Those last few miles into the wind going
up S. Fletcher inspired us to dream of second helpings and
the loosening of belt buckles. And to remember to be grateful
that we could be out there pedaling, working up an appetite on
our fancy bikes, on a beautiful island with a great bunch of friends!
Are we lucky or what?! Happy Thanksgiving!
