It will be in the 80s tomorrow so bring plenty of water. Tuesday was a 2 water bottle ride for me so I expect the same tomorrow. Bring your helmets, tuned up bikes and safety attitudes!
See you tomorrow at 9:00 am at Main Beach.

9 members showed and rode this morning. One girl was late because she was washing her clothes in a stream and drying them on the rocks - or something like that. She caught up at Ft Clinch. But her story was not nearly as long as Skeeter’s was about his heart, arteries, veins, cholesterol, calcium, scars, endurance training, blood pressure, etc., etc., etc. My eyes were glazing over but fortunately Sydney showed up, who bikes at the same time as us but not with us, to talk with us. It was partly cloudy so it was only a 1 1/4 water bottle ride. No flats or mechanicals to report. Gus let us start 1 minute early. Guess who belongs to the gloves below.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

Joe’s Special will leave from SuperCorsa at 9am sharp tomorrow.  The temperature is predicted to be 81 degrees at the start with a 9 mph wind out of the south.  It will be warm, but most of you are used to it (and many even enjoy it??!!).

I’m assuming there will be a BrainTrust gathering at V’s Pizza, but please confirm this with those who are regulars.

See you tomorrow,

-JIM

If anyone is planning to go to V’s Pizza at 2pm, you may want to let others know you’ll be there by replying to this email.

Because I was the ride leader this morning, I feel responsible for determining what happens with the brain trust. However, I probably will not be able to attend myself so this was the best way I could think of to help others organize.

-JIM

Well, we did have a ride today, but it was the smallest group for which I’ve been a ride leader.  There were 3 of us — John S, Jack S, and me (Jim H).  Although a small cohort, we were cohesive — we rode together almost the entire time.  However, we did not make it to the ferry.  Jack had a commitment so we turned around at Little Talbot Island.  John claimed he was okay with a shorter ride today because he’s riding for the next couple of days in a row.  And I always clock an extra 10 miles because I ride from home.

We had no flats, mechanicals, or falls.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable ride so all of those who didn’t show up missed a day in paradise!

In fact, we were having so much fun that I forgot to snap a photo!

Welcome Fellow Cyclists,

I’ve twice looked at the weather for tomorrow’s ride and the forecast has changed from a 50% chance of rain in the morning to NO rain, but clouds.  Clearly, the only way to depend on a prediction is to know that it may change!  Therefore, as of this moment, we will be meeting at the Amelia River Waterfront Park for a 9am start.  If there is a change due to the weather, I will notify folks by 7:45am.

Remember also that Ash Street is closed to cars, so arrive a little early if you need to take Center Street to Front to access the Waterfront Park.

Looking forward to seeing some, if not many, of you.

Poor me, I will be "working" at the Ft Clinch ranger(less) station, so I hope to see y'all rapidly pedaling...out.

Have fun!

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

Although it wasn’t clear when we began, whether (weather) it would rain because it was “spitting” on us, soon the temperature exceeded the dew point and the spitting ended.  By 10am, the sun was out and it was a lovely, but humid, day.  There were 10 of us at the start, but someone (whose name will remain a mystery) decided not to complete the ride today and went home to 5th Street near the History Museum.

Please see the photos that I took at the Fort and at Burney.  Mike S took one at the start to celebrate 60K miles ridden on his bike, so I’ll let him post that photo.

Another safe and successful ride with no flats, mechanicals, or falls — well done group!

Hello NFBC Members & Guests,

With Jack out of town, I will be officiating tomorrow’s ride around the northern half of Amelia Island.

The weather promises to cooperate with temps at the start in the upper 70s and winds out of the east around 14-15 mph with plenty of sunshine.

So, please come with a bike in good working order and be ready for another ride in <fill in the blank>!

Hello All,

We had another wonderful ride today on Amelia Island.  Winds were up out of the ENE, but the sun was shining and everyone had a good time.  There were no flats, mechanicals, or falls — we should celebrate the number of safe and uneventful rides that we’ve accumulated and hopefully they will continue into the far future!

There were 12 riders today and 6 continued far enough that they met at the Dog Park.  These 6 were Scott, Philip, Cheryl, Gus, Skeeter, and Carol — kudos to these 6.

I snapped one photo at the Fort (see attached) — forgot to take one at the start.

Oh, almost forgot, we did sing Happy Birthday to Skeeter who turned 69 today — congratulations SKEETER!

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

I am returning to Amelia Island just in time to lead tomorrow’s ride. Please know that the temperatures and two point will be quite high so be pccrepared.

I’ll meet you at the anchor in the new park in downtown Fernandina Beach by the Marina for a 9am start.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

I know Rich already sent a ride report, but I’m going to supplement it with additional text and a few photos.

There were many logistical challenges to today’s ride (although few who rode knew about what occurred behind the scenes).  First, there were 7 registered riders for today’s hot and sultry tour of the Island. Second, there were 2 riders who were unable to register for different reasons — George and me.  Third, I was supposed to lead the ride, but the drive from Nashville was so elongated that I arrived so late that I asked Rich W to sub for me.  Well, Rich agreed but this morning he had a flat and couldn’t get to the start on time, so I reached John G who read the “rules” to the group — thanks John!

Fourth, when I attempted to send the official ride to the NFBC, I noticed that the 7 folks who registered did so for a ride that included the Yulee address and map.  I’m still in the process of working with Rich W to figure out what happened.  We may need to call in the “expert” (i.e., Amy) to assist.

I am trying to post 3 photos (the 1st complements of John G) of today’s riders.

For those riding tomorrow, I will be subbing for our leader Doug, on the ride to the Ferry (actually to the Fort George bridge because there is no bike lane on the ocean side after the bridge).

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

Tomorrow’s ride will be hot and humid (again) with possible showers at 11am.  I’ll check my weather app and radar in the morning and, if the rain comes earlier, I’ll cancel the ride by 7:45am.  So, if it looks questionable in the morning, please look at your email.

Thanks and hope to see you tomorrow morning at Baxter’s parking lot (previous Super Corsa).

Greetings Fellow Riders,

Just as predicted, it was hot and humid; however, no rain and only sunshine was apparent this morning.  We had 10 cyclists who rode at their own pace except for the first three who seemed to ignore the heat and humidity and rode relatively quickly.  They may have had a flat on the other side of the Nassau bridge at Sawpit — I saw them there, but couldn’t tell why they were stopped.

Other than a possible flat, there were no mechanicals or falls reported.  I’m thankful for the safety record we’re accumulating after a string of accidents in 2025.  Sorry, there are no photos.  I missed my only opportunity at the start of the ride.

Stay safe and for those of us in their later 60s and 70s, be careful in the heat.  I know that I’ve slowed down to accommodate the weather.

-JIM
