You're right, Steve: great obituary!  

BTW, when I worked at the NYT, I soon learned that writing for the obituary desk was among the most prestigious of all.  For example, I got to know Jere Longman when I met him at the Atlanta Buro, when he was "down there" covering the '66 Summer Olympics.  Now THAT was fun!

Thank you for the article. My first real road bike that I purchased with my own money was a Cannondale 3.0.I was young in the Navy, not old enough to drink legally. That bike went to Scotland for a year-and-a-half with me. I even have a newspaper article from when I was there with a picture of me and that bike. I bought several cannondale after that and absolutely loved them all! A shame when they were no longer made in the U.S.A.
