Hello Fellow Cyclists,

We will be meeting tomorrow morning at the Amelia River Waterfront Park in downtown FB for a 9am start.

According to my weather forecast, it will be cloudy and 81 degrees at the start with 7-8 mph winds out of the west.  I’m sure it will be warm and humid, but no worse than it’s been for the last week.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

We had a banner day with lucky 13 riders at the start; however, one rider (I won’t mention Jon’s name) did not register for the ride.  Today was cooler with a cloud cover at the start.  Now, don’t get me wrong, when I say cooler, I don’t mean “comfortable” rather just a bit more bearable.  There were 4 of us that made it to Burney Park (and maybe more, but I left after a few minutes of rest).  For those who were at Burney, we had an opportunity to hear our El Presidente’s history in Colorado that brought him to Amelia Island and to learn that he knows horses.

The reason I can be light-hearted is because we had another successful ride with no flats, mechanicals, or falls (at least as far as I know and I’ve waited long enough that I would have heard by now).

I did snap one photo at the Fort, but if you want a panoply of photos from today’s ride, just ask George.

Hope to see you tomorrow for the Tuesday ride south.

-JIM

panoply is a wide, impressive, or complete range and display of things. Historically, the term originates from the ancient Greek word panoplia (meaning "full suit of armor"). While it can still mean ceremonial dress or a protective covering, it is more commonly used today to describe a magnificent collection.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

We will be meeting tomorrow morning at SuperCorsa/Baxter’s parking lot for a 9am start.

According to my weather forecast, it will be sunny and 81 degrees at the start with 5-6 mph winds out of the NW.  I’m sure it will be warm and humid, but no worse than it’s been for much of July.

Hello,

There was no discussion about the Brain Trust today at 2pm.

If folks are interested in attending, please write to the Amelia Cycling group so everyone will know who’s going (if anyone is going).

I’ll send a Ride Report a little later this afternoon.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

We had another pleasant ride today and welcomed back Phillip and Cheryl.  There were 5 of us that made the entire ride without a mishap of any kind — no falls, flats, or mechanicals.

I did remember to snap photos at the start and at the Fort George turnaround, so there is proof that we rode 32+ miles.  Not much more to report.  Thanks to the other 4 riders for keeping me company.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

Due to Don E’s accident 2 weeks ago and other circumstances, we will repeat the Monday Downtown FB Marina ride tomorrow.  It will be warm again with temps around 84 degrees at the 9am start and winds out of the south at 9-10 mph.

We’ll meet by the anchor at the new park just south of the parking lot where we used to meet. Remember that Ash Street is still blocked off, so you’ll need to take Center Street and then head south on Front Street.

Please come prepared with bikes in good working condition and bring water.

Hope to see you tomorrow morning.

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

Sorry for the late report.  It was a busy day.  There were 7 riders today, but only 6 were registered (what happened Mike S?).  It was a warm day with moderately strong winds out of the SE.  No one did the full course today — not sure if it was the heat & humidity or the fact that it was Monday.  Gus reported a flat in Fort Clinch, but he appreciated where it occurred (in the shade).  Otherwise, there were no mechanical issues or falls.

I did take a couple of photos and am attaching only one.

Be safe and enjoy your time on Amelia Island!

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

First, I have an apology for the group.  I actually was assigned to lead today’s ride.  Somehow, I was confused and thought I was leading Joe’s Friday Special tomorrow, but it seems that Rich W is tomorrow’s Ride Leader (unless he wants me to sub for him so he doesn’t have to wake up in the morning or can leisurely sip coffee).  Also a heads up for Monday’s Ride — it will once again be at the new park by the marina in Downtown FB because it is the regular scheduled Monday Ride (only last week was the exception).

Second, today’s ride: we had 13 cyclists, two of whom were new to the group — welcome Kim and Graham (yes, another Graham).  We broke up into smaller groups as we’re apt to do and everyone seemed to be in good spirits even in the sultry heat and humidity that characterizes Florida’s summers.

Third I’m happy to say that there were no falls, flats, or mechanicals that I was made aware of.  I want to give a shout out to Gus for accompanying Kim on the somewhat circuitous route that defines our Thursday ride — actually our routes are all circuitous except for Tuesday and Friday.

Finally, I did manage to snap one photo at the Fort which will allow those in the photo to prove to the Club that they participated — you never know when the Club or the president will insist on photo evidence!  Also, I apologize for Gary (you’ll understand why when you see the photo).

Hello Fellow Cyclists,

We had an unusual ride today.  There were 7 of us — you can see 5 in the attached photo.  Graham #2 was on the ride but missing from the photo.

What was unusual was the number of flat tires — we had 3 with just 7 of us. It began at the entrance to Big Talbot where John S came up lame with a flat.  It took 7 of us to fix it, but we did so in record time — about 15 minutes.  Then, miles later, I was on the trail returning north to the start when I happened upon John S, midway on Big Talbot, who once again had a flat tire — neither he nor I had a pump.  I got his phone number and told him I would ride to SuperCorsa and ask Scott to pick him up with his truck and we’d call.  Well, just past the 2nd roundabout heading north, I saw a rider walking his bike and lo and behold, it was Scott.  I asked Scott for the key to his truck, rode to the start where I left my bike, hopped into Scott’s mammoth vehicle and drove south to pick him up.  By that time John S’s daughter had come and picked him up, so all is well that ends well.  There probably is a moral to this story, but I don’t know what it is!!!

That’s all for Joe’s Friday Special Ride.

-JIM (and Rich who entered the data to the NFBC website)
