All,

I’m back, due to a lack of Jack! He and his wife are such big fans
of their grands that we were sans our fearless leader once again,
and hence a poor substitute (me) was asked to stand in.

But what a day we had! It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
We had temps in the upper 60s and low 70s, a gentle breeze
out of the southeast and bright, sunny skies. There was a touch
of fog at Main Beach to begin but that burned off quickly. We are starting
to get into that Goldilocks zone of weather on the island, with
temperatures warming and the humidity still comfortable.

18 riders showed and rode. We welcomed a guest, Dan, who is visiting
the island from upstate New York, the Fingers Lakes region. Also, we
welcomed back Mike T. who is recovering from a recent medical
procedure. He is Amy’s brother-in-law and a good, strong rider. After
yet another sterling rendition of the safety brief by yours truly, we
reminded each other that this is car show week with lots of traffic!
Also, we chatted about the Nassau County meeting many of us attended
last night regarding a new trail segment that is coming closer to fruition.
This is the one that will come north on Will Hardy, turn left on
Sadler and then turn up 14th Street. It is in final design stage, the money
is there and we are hopeful construction will start sometime next year.
Mike S. has an email about it and has been bird dogging it along with
Mike P., Bill B. and other club members. There was also a meeting last
week about a trail proposed for Citrona Drive but that one is not as far along
in its development. Lots to talk about and lots happening on the island!

Our ride today was a delight with no wrecks or mechs that I am
aware of. Jackets were shed at the Fort Clinch rest stop (if you
we’re wearing one) and the ride leader had to crack the whip
(two minute warning!) to get the crowd rolling again. At the dog park
we marveled at all the private jets (8-10) already parked at our
little airport and speculated at how much money was sitting there on the
Tarmac. From there it was smooth sailing home and another excellent
adventure in the books on our little piece of paradise!

Respectfully,
Peter B., substitute ride leader and domestique to Kathleen F.
