Here is a trail news update from the Friends of Amelia Island Trail.
-The county will hold a meeting at the Peck Center on March 4th to trail expansion north of the existing the ARTS Trail.   This is the Will Hardee/Sadler/S. 14th trail.
-The AI Parkway trail remaining sections are progressing with an expected May completion date.  This will provide new opportunies for AIC/NFBC rides that combine AIT, AIPT, and ARTS trails, as all three will be connected.
-The Schools to Waterfront Trail awaits funding as part of the County’s trail plan.
-There is a proposal for an extension of the AIP trail north of 8th street to Bonnieview/Clinch Drive.
-Work continues on the new roundabout at AI Parkway and Buccaneer Trail, with expected completion by July.   This affects the AIP Trail and AIC/NFBC rides that travel along AI Parkway.
-Design work is underway for a future AI Parkway/Julia Street and First Coast Highway intersection improvement.  This will affect the AITrail, the extension to American Beach, and AIC/NFBC Wednesday ride.
-Construction of the last segment of the Timucuan Trail starts this week, a 0.57 mile segment from Huguenot Park on Heckscher Rd. to the Ft. George Bridge.   It is expected to be completed in early 2027, completing the trail from Amelia Island to the Mayport Ferry. This will affect AIC/NFBC Tuesday and some Friday rides.
For all of the Nassau County road and many more trail projects (funded and unfunded), look at the most recent Capital improvement plan (approved 9/2025 for years 2025-2030): https://www.nassaucountyfl.com/1324/Nassau-County-5-Year-Capital-Improvement
