RIDE START TIME CHANGE!!! The JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes will start within the Amelia Island Plantation at 7:30 am tomorrow, in waves.  More than 500 riders are expected.  Part of their route includes the north end of Amelia Island, including Ft Clinch.  Therefore, per Joe P's recommendation, we will start our ride from Main Beach at 9:00am.  Please let me know if you have any better ideas.

The regular Saturday Amelia Island ride will be led by Don Taylor and a designated co-ride leader.  The ride will depart at 9:00 AM from Main Beach, located at South Fletcher Ave. (A1A) and Atlantic Ave., near the Recreation Center and the entrance to Fort Clinch State Park.  We usually park east of the Skateboard Park.  The standard routes are 30-35 miles, but this uniquely designed ride allows riders to cut off loops along the way to reduce the overall distance, if desired.

As this will be the first Saturday in the month of December, it will again be time to pass the helmet to collect and donate our $$$ for the Doggies.  Attached is a thank-you note from the Nassau Humane Society for our record-breaking donation for the month of November--an a photo of Sallie riding past my house on last week's ride, thanks to Don T.

As for the ride itself, cyclists of all abilities are welcome. Typically there will be a faster group and a slower group. We'll have riders of A(18-21), B(14-17), C(Up to 14 MPH), and S (Social Ride – speed of the slowest rider in the group) paces. Anyone who joins the group will not be left behind.

Bicycle helmets are mandatory, as is a bicycle in good working condition. Safe cycling is an absolute must, and safety rules will be emphasized before the start of each ride. As always, cyclists are required to obey all traffic laws, or risk being ticketed by local law enforcement officers.

The Ft Clinch gate house will remain closed until 10:30, after our group has left the park.  Please follow the usual rules of safety and courtesy any time we ride in the state park.

Below is a list of upcoming Amelia Island rides through the end of February, 2023,, submitted by Ride Leader Emeritus Don Eipert.  Please look it over and let Don E and/or yours truly know if anything needs to be changed.  Thanks to ride leaders who have already stepped up and filled in for the ??????????s!  And don't forget about the ride leader training session to be held at the downtown library at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
