Hello my beautiful charming girls,

I would like to invite you all girls to celebrate Karva Chauth on October 11th Saturday 2014. For this get together don't even try to think of cooking hassle. We have a better idea to just focus on having fun night. We all can contribute some money so that we can cater the food from restaurant. So we will be having girls fun time with music naach gaana masti(sangeeth and mehndi) until we see the moon. HusBANDS and kids will be strictly locked in the basement. This is purely girls hangout time till the pooja time:D

And haan is baar Preeti zaroor bole toh zaroor nachegi :D yeh Preeti ka vaada he

Please let us know your availability and we can decide about and other stuff.

About Karva Chauth Pooja

During Karva Chauth puja, the married women sit in a circle. At the center of, they place the two-inch tall idol of Goddess. A Karva (holy pitcher) is placed beside the idol. Then, the women apply tilak on the idol of Gauri Ma to seek her blessings and pray for a long, blissful and prospered married life. Thereafter, an elderly woman of the group narrates the Karva Chauth Katha (story), a legend associated with the celebration of the festival.

The married woman would wait for the moon to rise in the evening. Once the moon rises, they would see the moon through the sieve, offer Prasad (dry fruits such as almonds and cashew nuts) or snacks to the moon, and then see their husband through the same sieve. Thereafter, they would break their fast by drinking the water that they have

Pooja Items and Pooja Thali

The items that are required for Karva Chauth puja include:

·         Idol of Goddess Gauri (one for all of us is enough),
·         Karva (pitcher) filled with water,
·         A diya (earthen lamp),
·         Flowers
·         Handful of fruits and food grains( A part of fruits and food grains are offered to the deity, while the other half is served to the story teller)
·         The puja thali (made of brass or stainless steel) would consist of incense sticks, kumkum (vermilion), chawal (rice), lota (a container filled with water) and an earthen lamp.

Henna by Preeti for all you girls

Henna or Mehndi is considered to be auspicious for married women, and is a necessary part of the Karva Chauth ritual. It is believed that married woman who gets dark color from Mehndi will get loads of love and caring from her groom. It also denotes prosperity and good luck.

The Fast(Optional only if you are really interested in)

It is the most important and difficult fast observed by married Hindu women. It begins before sunrise and ends only after offering prayers and worshipping the moon at night. No food or water can be taken after sunrise. The fast is broken once the moon is sighted and rituals of the day have been performed. At night when the moon appears, women break their fast after offering water to the moon.

Dressing up for Karva Chauth(most important part of the get together night)

Women dress up in their best finery, with henna-decked hands, bindis, colorful bangles, vermilion in their hair-parting and the best of jewelry.

Please do share your inputs on this and lets get the food menu discussion started.

Thanks,
Preeti
