Community Snow Observations is a campaign that encourages winter enthusiasts to take snow depth observations as they're out recreating.
By measuring the snow as
folks ski, hike, or snowshoe, they're able to provide researchers with critical information about snowfall and runoff across the landscape.
Together we can improve snow models,
reduce flood and avalanche danger, and investigate the impacts of changing winters on backcountry recreation right here in New Hampshire.
To
continue building enthusiasm for Community Snow Observations, we're hosting a February Snow Observation Challenge this year. The person who submits the greatest number of observations anywhere in the Northeast throughout the month of February will win an L.L.
Bean hiking backpack. I've attached a promotional flyer with information
about why snow observations matter, details about the challenge, and instructions for how folks can participate.
We
were wondering if you could help us spread the word about this event to all of the snow enthusiasts in the NH Chapter. If you have any questions or would like any additional information/resources, please let me know, and I would be happy to help.
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Kyler
