Hi everybody,

For a revision, I have been asked to calculate and report on MIN ratings. This is an ambivalence score based on the highest shared intensity.

So, assuming that an attitude object is rated 7 on positivity, and 8 on negativity, the MIN rating is 7. When the positive rating is 5, and a negative rating is 1, then the MIN rating is 1.

For the life of me, I can not remember the reference, and Google Scholar is no help because apparently the word "min" is used for many other things as well ;)

Hoping someone here has this top of mind,

Thanks!
Iris.

Heyo

Sounds like what Hunter et al (2008) mention here below no?

"To measure mixed feelings, we used the MIN statistic (Kaplan, 1972;
Schimmack, 2001), which is the minimum of scores on two unipolar scales.
For example, if participants provide a rating of 4 for how happy a musical
piece makes them feel and a rating of 2 for how sad it makes them feel, their
MIN rating for mixed happy and sad feelings would be 2. The rationale is
that the higher the lowest rating, the greater the amount of co-activation
across both feelings. Our main prediction was that mixed happy and sad
feelings would be elevated in conditions with mixed cues for happiness and
sadness compared to conditions with consistent cues."

Hunter, P. G., Schellenberg, E. G., & Schimmack, U. (2008). Mixed affective responses to music with conflicting cues. Cognition & Emotion, 22(2), 327-352.
