I HATE MATH

What was your worst subject in school? Not your best but your worst?
Mine was math. When I started grade one I knew math and I were going
to be in eternal conflict one with another. We weren't even allowed to
use calculators when they came on the market, we were suppose to use
"brain power" to solve our math problems. Probably why I still have
headaches. Actually I was much more interested in HISTORY ( I love it)
LITERATURE ( I read Shakesphere's Julius Caesar in grade two and loved
it) I loved doing our monthly Book reports we had to do at least six
and I had them done in about 6-8 weeks. ENGLISH was ok...weren't
alllowed to use ain't back then cause ain't wasn't in the
dictionary...now it is. SCIENCE ah so so ( I have been called the
gadget man ...go figure)SPELLING (mostly A's & B's now I need spell
check...go figure) HEALTH hmmm so so...BUT I HATED MATH above all
else. You see I am kinda of a simple person. I like a simple, quiet
life, I like simple explanations, simple solutions....here is where
reality check comes in. Life isn't always simple or quiet. Even in
church worship services I sometimes react to certain speakers. I have
a good friend who is a Theologian ( can't tolerate them but I do like
my friend) and one day he was preaching and I am looking around at all
the polite but somewhat confused people and wondered if I had the same
look on my face. Later I jokingly told my friend, "WOW! that was a
hard lesson to swallow." He replied with concern, "Yes, I had too much
information." I sighed, he didn't get it but thats ok.
So many things in life are complicated because we make em that way.
Some like, lawyers and politicians, really know how to make things
complicated and it ain't ( it's in the Dictionary...honest) getting
any better. As a Social Worker (and before that a minister) I am
amazed at how complicated people make their lives to be (ooops! Hope
there ain't any English teachers here). All because they don't accept
responsibility for their lives, for their actions and decisions.
Christians do the same thing a lot, eh? ("eh" is a Canadian thing..its
in the dictionary...I think). Instead of following God's will we are
determined to follow our own. I once got lost in the vast forests of
Northern British Columbia when I was 14 because I didn't take the time
to learn how not to get lost. There are some things in the Bible that
are hard to understand (Apostle Peter says this about Paul 2 Peter
3:15-1615 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is
salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom
given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles,
speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to
understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own
destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. ). Though not
impossible to understand through prayerful study. Sometimes we just
have to apply ourselves a bit more to grasp the meaning. Nowdays we
want everything spelled out for us...by others. The easiest books of
the Bible to understand are the Four Gosepels, 1-3 John, 1-2 Peter,
James, etc. I especially like 1- John. However, have you noticed that
in the Gospels Jesus speaks in a way that everyone can understand?
When I was still in the ministry my sermons were delivered in a way
that all ages could understand, not that I was perfect in that way.
Years ago it was said that the 4 Gospels were written on a grade six
level. Everything we need to know about the Christian life, this
includes Salvation, Jesus spoke in a way that was easy to understand.
The other books may require a bit more dilligent studying...15 Be
diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not
need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun
profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more
ungodliness. 2 Tim 2:15-16 (NKJV)
Tomorrow, as we gather too worship our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
let us worship Him in simplicity but more importantly from a honest,
sincere and open heart. Worship Him with real joy, passion,
love...don't make it complicated...24 God is Spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:24 (NKJV). By
the by I did pass my math test.
