Jana gana mana was written by Rabindranath Tagore to welcome king of england in India.

That is why it has references like "Bharat bhagya vidhata " and " Tav shubh aashish mange" and jay he

ie.The British king is our bhagya vidhata and we seek his blessings..

Pity that our national song praises the "KINg of England" .

I still feel proud of our national song ...

Shame on Nehru for choosing ' jana gana mana ' over ' Vande Mataram' as our national song..

Nehru did not choose 'Jana Gana Mana' as the National Anthem.
It was chosen by our constitutional assembly (by majority, not by unanimity though).

And you are right that whatever the past of the song, we will have to abide by it.

But what I strongly feel is that we need to move beyond the symbolism (over-respect and over-concern for anthem/religion/freedom struggle/Indian supremacy from historic times etc.). दुकाने फोडल्याने मराठी बोलली गेली तर मग ते फार सोपे असले असते. But it is not so.

[One example of Symbolism is making it compulsory to sing Anthem in theatres. C'mmon! I go there to watch a movie. And is it a place to sing the National Anthem? But politicians have their own agendas and we fall prey for that.]

It will be only then that we will be able to see the shameful state of affairs in which we, Indians, live in. We are among the best in corruption, we have not been able to erase malnutrition deaths, we are not aware of the seriousness of the bloody internal war waged by Naxalites - our own brothers, we can not prevent terrorist attacks, we can not follow simple rules and discipline in public life etc. (- and we do not vote).

But fortunately, we are at a historic juncture where we, as a new generation, can overthrow baggage of history and compete with the world. We are exposed to world-class technologies, good opportunities etc. Further, we (most of us) are coming out of the over-influence of history, and have started to look ahead (instead of in our past) for answers.

Becoming Entrepreuners, creating wealth by adding value to society, and distributing it back to society through your employees and shareholders is the best approach for development.

It is only then that the world will start respecting your symbols - language/flag/Anthem etc.

Look at China as an example. Chinese never over-idolised Mao. Mao proved good at a very specific juncture of history. When new needs arose, Chinese gave away communism and went on the way of a state-controlled capitalism. And look at their might now. Situations have changed, so will change the heroes of today. So each time looking into a lives of past idol for answers will not do today.

Whatever our forefathers have achieved, they have done it. They have proved themselves.
Now it is our turn.

Hi Ganesh,

 

whatever you said is right.but i think we need to come forward for look into this.as we know most of us are working in many difference organisation, doing work over night for getting the thousands of bugs, but no one is interested in these kinds of issue.it us (i.e. new generation) that makes difference.I think we don't need to take time from daily time table just add small think in daily rutting (like previously we discuss regarding extra money more than MRP.that we pay for buying a goods).This all makes proude to be an INDIAN

 

Its time for us to do that.

I am writing for first time.

Just to introduce, I am a chemical engineer from UDCT,Mumbai.

Now doing my masters.

 

Nice to go through these mails.

Just want to say- We have abilities, talent.

But what is lagging is tenacity...marathit Chikati and will to work at ground level.

For bringing  changes to society...the best place to do the work is the society-our real life customers in business language.

So its better to work for them at that level.

 

Small scale enterprises will hold the key role in upcoming time to create wealth and prosperity to society.

Even if we can't do anything different, anything extra - doesn't matter. आधी प्रपंच करावा नेटका - असे केले तरी भरपूर.
What is important is doing whatever you are doing with full commitment, for the best possible quality, and improving continuously.
Imagine 1 billion Indians doing their jobs perfectly.
And as Vaibhav has also agreed - entrepreneurship through creating long lasting enterprises will be the key to India's strength and future.

I would echo Vaibhav’s feelings.

Just one addition: not just that we need to be more tenacious- we need to be more honest with ourselves!

Do we really practice what we think is right?

Why is there such a gap between our thoughts and actions? Where is the origin of this gap? We have experienced it since our early childhood may be. Is it our culture? Upbringing? Or the unfamiliarity of our society with the basic principles of democracy; one wonders.
