The Nursing Diagnosis Handbook by Betty J. Ackley is a thorough yet helpful guide to nursing practices and diagnoses. It covers all sorts of important issues dealing with nursing, such as proper scheduling and organization, effective communication, patient care and treatment, managing symptoms, among others. It is aimed at nurses and nursing students as well as nursing professionals from other health care professions. One good thing about this book is that it is written in an easy-to-read manner that can be read even by nursing beginners. Also, it comes with practice tests and ready-made checklists so that you can immediately implement the information to your practice.
This book comes complete with an extensive glossary of medical terms and a list of disease and condition terms, as well as complete information on how to interpret data on physical examination results. Although the manual does not go into as much depth as some texts, it nevertheless provides an excellent outline for future reference. This is especially handy for nursing students, since they will need to refer to this manual over again. Additionally, the book includes case studies that illustrate practical applications of nursing diagnosis. It also contains numerous photographs and side-by-side comparisons of common conditions or maladies.
