Hello everyone,

I ran my 50 MHz bandwidth interferometer for 30 days pointed at Sgr A and the results are in. I experienced a lot of heavy rain over the time period, so only 9 usable data of data were obtained.

Ultimately, I could not detect any other objects besides Sgr A even with 9 days of integration. This radio source is pretty low in the sky for me, so I probably am getting more noise from other background objects.

I would conclude that 50 MHz of bandwidth is still too low to see fainter objects. I am going to try using a AD8302 phase comparator next to see if I can utilize the whole 500 MHz from my upper C band LNBs.

Another thing to test out is moving to the Ku band where the antennas will have more gain, but also a higher noise figure.

Stay tuned,

David

Hi David.  I have always had a question: you take 30 days information from SgrA, but each day SgrA is in a different location.  How do you correct that in a graph, so that everything is in phase and improve the resolution?

Regards

Rolando

Rolando,

I set up the FX correlator to record over the course of a sidereal day instead of a solar day. This way, astronomical objects will be synchronized on the plots. Also, this lets me know that I'm not seeing the sun or the moon.
