Warm greetings from Swayam!

Swayam is a feminist organisation that has been working since 1995 to end violence and discrimination against women and girls, facilitate women’s empowerment and advance gender equality. The organisation envisions a world rooted in equality and dignity.

Every year, Swayam observes the 16 Days Awareness Drive to End Violence against Women and Girls, a global initiative that runs from 25th November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10th December (International Human Rights Day). The dates symbolically connect violence against women with human rights, underscoring that gender-based violence is a fundamental violation of human rights.

As you know Swayam has completed 30 years this year, it is clear that the foundation of Swayam is built on the inner strength, and resilience of every individual survivor who has walked through our door. Our journey has been one of mutual growth. As we accompanied women in their paths towards dignity and empowerment, their courage, insight, resilience and determination have equally empowered and transformed us at Swayam.

Swayam has been using public art as a medium for communication for many years and using it as a tool to create awareness. Keeping this in mind, Swayam is creating a mural on the office wall in Kolkata to commemorate its 30-year journey. 303 women from across three Swayam communities have expressed their experiences and journeys with Swayam through writing and art in a series of workshops. These stories have been brought to life by a group of artists on the walls of Swayam's Hazra office, showcasing milestones in the journey of each survivor and the organisation.

As we celebrate this memorable moment of honouring 30 years of Swayam and the journeys of all the women associated with us, we warmly invite you to join us for the inauguration of the Swayam Hazra Office wall mural on 8th December 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We will be truly delighted to have you with us on this day.
