Capacity building session on 5th May on Transgender Persons Rights Amendment Act, 2026

Dear Friends,

 

This is to share with you all that the Aman Capacity Building team is organising an online session on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, from 3 pm to 5 pm on Transgender Persons Rights Amendment Act, 2026.

 

I thank Meenu from SNEHA, Mumbai, for taking the initiative in organising this session.  

 

This session will be facilitated by Rituparna Borah from Nazariya, New Delhi. The session will deal with the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026. Beginning with a brief history of rights and legal developments for transgender persons in India, the session will then move into a closer look at the provisions of the Amendment Act. Key concerns such as the lack of self-identification, continued medical gatekeeping, bureaucratisation, and criminalisation provisions will also be discussed.

 

The session will also explore the impact of the Act on transgender communities as well as organisations working in GBV. The session will also look at these provisions in the context of natal family violence.
