Dear friends,

On behalf of the Aman National Network secretariat, I would like to thank you all for joining the online session on August 26th regarding the new Criminal Laws, organised by Aman Network. Your overwhelming response inspired us to organise another discussion. We are excited to announce that Aman is hosting a session on Gender and Sexuality, facilitated by the Nazariya team, a long-lasting member organisation of the National Network of Aman. This online session is scheduled for September 4th.

We request you all to please join this interactive session. We would appreciate a line of confirmation.

A short Note on the session

Understanding Gender, Sexuality & Power: A Reflective Learning Session

This session is meant to help us think more deeply about how gender roles affect all of us - not just queer people, but also women who do not fit into society’s expectations of how a woman should behave. We will talk about how these roles limit our freedom, choices, and voice, and how they affect our everyday lives, bodies, and relationships.

We will use a mix of simple activities, small group discussions, and personal reflection to connect our own life experiences with the bigger systems of power that control how gender and sexuality are understood in our society. This will include looking at things from a psychological (mind and emotions) perspective too.

The session will create a safe, open space where everyone can share and learn from each other without fear or judgment. The aim is to build more empathy and understanding - especially for people who often face exclusion or violence because of their gender or sexuality, such as queer people, single women, or survivors of abuse.

As a next step, we also suggest a follow-up session on the legal rights of queer people - covering important court rulings, the Transgender Persons Act, and ways to support people during crisis or when doing casework.

About Nazariya - Nazariya is a queer feminist resource group, led by queer and trans individuals, and advocates for visibility and equal opportunities for LGBTQIA+ communities, focusing on queer women and trans persons. We strive to create a non-discriminatory environment where all can advocate for their rights.

Warm Regards,

Rituparna

(on behalf of Nazariya, New Delhi)
