If you are interested in performance-based admission, transferring earned college credits to finish your degree at URI, or if you are a military service member (or a veteran, or a dependent) please see the resources below.*

Finish What You Started students can attend our Kingston campus or take classes online. We offer many courses online and in the evening for busy working professionals. You can also take advantage of our two summer sessions and our winter J-term (January) mini-semester to fast track your education.

A Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, is a nine-digit number used to identify a business entity. Generally, a business needs an FEIN, which is assigned by the IRS, but not all businesses may need one depending on the business structure. If you plan to hire employees, you must obtain an FEIN. If you are unsure about whether you need an FEIN, the IRS can walk you through a quick Q and A.

You also must obtain appropriate licensing as required. A business tax license authorizes you to collect Vermont taxes on behalf of the State of Vermont. When you apply for and receive a license authorizing you to collect state tax, you should display it in your business where it can be easily seen by customers (for example, near a cash register or at a front desk). You must then hold the state tax you've collected in trust until you remit it to the Vermont Department of Taxes by the due date.

Please note: If you register online through the Vermont Secretary of State or with the Department of Taxes through myVTax, you will receive your registration and licensing more quickly than submitting a paper application.

If your business earns income by doing business in Vermont, you must file and pay income tax in Vermont. How you must file and what forms you must use depends on your business structure. See Miscellaneous Taxes for more tax types that may apply to your business.

So what is Stoicism? Who were the Stoics? How can you be a Stoic? We answer all your questions and more below. Click the links below to navigate to a specific section or scroll and read the entirety of the page:

On February 25th, 138, Hadrian adopted a 51 year old man named Antoninus Pius on the condition that he in turn adopted Marcus Aurelius. Given life-expectancy statistics of the time, Hadrian figured this regent and mentor might be at the helm in five years. All was well, except Antoninus lived and ruled for twenty three years.

While Seneca would speak, with surprising relatability, about slave owners who became owned by the responsibility and management of their slaves or other Stoics would congratulate themselves for their humane treatment of their human chattel, Epictetus actually was one.

The world wants to know what category to put you in, which is why it will occasionally send difficult situations your way. Think of these not as inconveniences or even tragedies but as opportunities, as questions to answers. Do I have cojones? Am I brave? Am I going to face this problem or run away from it? Will I stand up or be rolled over?

Of course, life is not so simple as to say that courage is all the counts. While everyone would admit that courage is essential, we are also all well aware of people whose bravery turns to recklessness and becomes a fault when they begin to endanger themselves and others.

Courage. Temperance. Justice. These are the critical virtues of life. But what situations call for courage? What is the right amount? What is the right thing? This is where the final and essential virtue comes in: Wisdom. The knowing. The learning. The experience required to navigate the world.

Wisdom has always been prized by the Stoics. Zeno said that we were given two ears and one mouth for a reason: to listen more than we talk. And since we have two eyes, we are obligated to read and observe more than we talk as well.

Thousands of years of blazing insight are available to the world. It is likely that you have the power to learn anything you want at your fingertips. So today, honor the Stoic virtue of wisdom by slowing down, being deliberate, and finding the wisdom you need.

Epictetus the slave. Marcus Aurelius the emperor. Seneca the power broker and playwright. These three radically different men led radically different lives. But they seemed to have one habit in common: Journaling.

USDA Service Centers are offices where you can typically meet face-to-face with staff from USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to discuss your vision, goals, and ways USDA can help. For your convenience, both agencies are usually located in the same Service Center. USDA employs FSA and NRCS staff members in 2,300 offices nationwide to provide dedicated support to our producers.

USDA Service Centers are locations where you can connect with Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, or Rural Development employees for your business needs. Enter your state and county below to find your local service center and agency offices. If this locator does not work in your browser, please visit offices.usda.gov.

NRCS provides financial and technical assistance and easement programs for conservation on working lands. Your NRCS team member will ask about your goals for your land and can help you develop a conservation plan and file an application for the wide range of NRCS programs.

RD provides loans, grants, loan guarantees, and technical assistance, along with support for affordable housing, infrastructure modernization, businesses, cooperatives, and other essential community services.

USDA and agricultural colleges around the country work together to support an extensive network of State, regional, and county Cooperative Extension offices, which can help answer questions you may have about your operation and address common issues faced by agricultural producers.

New to farming? Want to learn how to start a farm? USDA offers dedicated help to beginning farmers and ranchers. USDA considers anyone who has operated a farm or ranch for less than ten years to be a beginning farmer or rancher.

Beginning Farmer and Rancher Coordinators are USDA team members in each state that can help you understand the USDA process and find the right assistance as you are starting out. Reach out to your state's coordinator for one-on-one technical assistance and guidance. They can also connect you with organizations that specifically serve beginning farmers and ranchers.

Your local USDA Service Center has staff who can meet with you one-on-one to help you identify USDA programs that meet the needs of your operation, including farm loans and conservation assistance. Service center staff can guide you through the process of preparing and submitting required paperwork, with no need to hire a paid preparer.

After you've registered your farm and set up an individual customer record with your local USDA Service Center, you can sign up for a secure farmers.gov account to access a number of self-service features. For example, you can:

In addition to our farm programs, there are many leadership opportunities for beginning farmers to contribute their voices and experience. Through USDA, you can take advantage of several key opportunities like committee elections, research and promotion programs, and federal advisory committees.

If you have a College Board account, sign in using the same credentials. This will save you time and help us apply fee waivers you received to your CSS Profile application. Only noncustodial parents will create a separate parent account. Learn more about creating a parent account on our Profile for Parents page.

Finally, hold yourself accountable. Sometimes you just need to build up your self-discipline. Maybe wake-up fifteen minutes earlier or spend less time watching TV. Other times you may need to call in reinforcements.
