Dear Friends,

It is my sad duty to inform you of that after a lengthy battle with various medical conditions, Surj Bains passed away peacefully on the 10^th of March.

    Surj was Captain of Allen in 1959.     In carrying out the role of School Captain, Surj exemplified what the school stood for.   He demonstrated his commitment to the role by participating in the wider aspects of school life.   Surj excelled in the classroom and on the sports fields and was much admired and respected by the staff and students alike.   He always showed a smart sense of self-presentation and was an excellent ambassador for the school.

   He was one of Wynberg-Allen’s true sons who carried his love for the school proudly ever since he graduated in 1959.    He was a keen supporter of our Society and acted as Secretary for the U.S.A. members and later added the Canadian members to his list.   In the late 1990’s, he and his wife, Judy, attended one of our reunions at Windsor.    Along with Geoff Perkins, Surj arranged many memorable Wynberg-Allen Society Can-Am reunions at/on exotic venues such as Las Vegas and Sea Cruises.

It is with sadness that I read your email. Surj was indeed a great ambassador of WAS...I personally enjoyed reading many of his erudite emails and discussions ranging from social change, criminal justice system in the US and how jury's influence or affect trials, and life in general. He will be dearly missed.
