My guess is, that he is the young boy who helps Claire on the plague ship.

Don't we have two cabin boys, one on the Porpoise and one on the Artemis? You'd think I'd remember this having just read book three looking for Frank stuff. Sheesh short term memory can be really short.

Had to look it up, Maitland was on the Artemis and I can't find a cabin boy for the Porpoise though I seem to remember one.

Yes he was the one. I didn't feel Claire "pressed" him into medical service though. Didn't he help her out of his own free will? I thought it was so very sad when he died.

I thought I remembered the conversation starting out with "you there...". I most certainly could be wrong.

Well Claire sort of "you there"'s a lot. But most seem somewhat willing.

I think most would be willing, reluctantly or not, if given the "hawk eye" and a "you there" from our Claire.
