"xx of Illinois writes, "...have been using all types of dowsing
and MFDs since 1982.

As an example; I know where a target has been in the ground for
150+ years and the closest an off the shelf unit can get to it
is one mile. Taking the xxx to the site and
switching on for a few minutes; I get a reading exactly in the
same place that 24 years of experience has led me to using
proprietary techniques."

As Dr. Carver explained in an earlier posting, xx (Illinois) is
showing us that in all those years of messing around with
dowsing and MFD units, the ideomotor effect is still confusing.
The basic problem with this story is so classic of so many
stories just like this one. The Dowser ingrains a belief system
in their mind. The belief system involves thinking that a
treasure is actually buried in a certain location. Nothing can
sway that dowser from believing that the location of the buried
treasure is where they believe it to be. Therefore, ANY time
they pick up a dowsing tool, or in this case the xx dowsing
contraption, the ideomotor effect will take over
and the dowsing contraption will ALWAYS point to the location
they have set into their mind. As long as they NEVER dig in
that location, and find out there is NOTHING there ---they will
believe to their dying day that there is treasure buried there,
and ALL of the dowsing gadgets they manipulate will erroneously
point to that assumed location.

This is how the ideomotor effect works to fool individuals into
believing that expensive dowsing contraptions, like the xxx, are
actually doing something. In fact, it is
really doing nothing different from what could be obtained from
a small bent wire or a dowsing pendulum. The ideomotor effect
is a very strong psychological effect and one that xxxxx
relies on in order to sell his high priced ripoff dowsing
contraptions. He also relies on the overall gullibility of the
average treasure hunter.
