Altshul regularly meets at Beth Elohim in the chapel at 10:00am for Shabbat morning servicesLocation is CBE, 274 Garfield Place. Kindershul starts at the beginning of the Torah service. View the extended Altshul Minyan calendar.

  • Shabbat starts at 5:35 pm Friday evening 
  • Shabbat ends at 6:35 pm on Saturday night

    • Highlights: Aaron and his sons become priests, and learn to make offerings on behalf of the people.

  • Siddur recall
    If you have borrowed an Altshul siddur in the past and have forgotten to return it, it would be greatly appreciated if you could bring it back whenever you next come to shul. Thanks!

    Join us for Maariv and Megillat Esther in the CBE Main Sanctuary on Monday, March 9th, 7 PM (Purim party to follow megillah reading)
    Purim services are hosted by Congregation Beth Elohim, Altshul, Beloved Brooklyn, Brooklyn Jews, IDRA: Culture & Learning & Food, Mishkan Minyan, Romemu Brooklyn, Shir HaMaalot, UJA-Federation of New York, and Union Temple of Brooklyn.

  • Pesach at Altshul
    We will be meeting on the 7th and 8th day of Pesach! If you are planning to be in town and would like to contribute to services (davening, leyning, etc), please notify lonniefirestone@gmail.com
  • Calendar updates 
    Check the calendar on Altshul's website https://www.altshul.org/ (and this newsletter) for dates and details of upcoming Altshul meet ups. The website calendar does not sync with google calendars, so please check the site and the newsletter for upcoming dates and times. 
  • The Intergenerational Beit-Midrash is back!
    Larry Magarik is teaching five sessions on Darchei Tefilah. Expect hevruta and shuir focusing on the meaning (rather than mechanics) of prayer. There are three learning sessions remaining, and they will be held after Kiddush in the Chapel at 1:15 pm on March 14, April 25, and May 9. 
    The source materials for the next study session after services March 14, 2020 will be Hasidic Koans on Tefilah.

    Serious learners of all ages are welcome!  (Generally 10-years old and up has been most successful.)

    April 17-April 19th will be a weekend of art, music, conversation, wine, cheese, and more! Attendance is free.
    Interested in showing your work? Just let us know! Indicate your interest now, and give us specifics later. We welcome artists working in a variety of mediums. Past shows have included sculpture, painting, quilting, photography, assemblage and printmaking. Meet other artists and share your work with the larger CBE community!
