This Week at Altshul

1.    Saturday Morning Minyan, June 26, 10am + Potluck Picnic in Prospect Park!
Altshul will meet Shabbat morning, June 26th in the Chapel at Beth Elohim. Kindershul will start at the beginning of the Torah services.

After kiddush, we will walk to Prospect Park for a potluck vegetarian picnic.
Please bring:

  • Food to share that is hechshered or from a kosher or strictly vegetarian kitchen. Desserts will be provided by the Social Action Social Justice (SASJ) Committee, but appetizers, entrees and drinks are entirely up to you.
  • Your own real plates and flatware so that we don't have to use disposables.
  • Blankets, frisbees and whatever else your heart desires.

Altshul Announcements
2.    Kiddush Sponsors Needed!
Let me guess - you've been thinking about sponsoring for a while, but haven't quite gotten around to it yet. Well, now would be a very good time indeed.

Sponsoring kiddush is a great way to give back to the Altshul community and is appreciated by everyone. This summer, we need sponsors for regular kiddush and mini-kiddush on picnic weeks. If you're concerned about the cost you can co-sponsor with a friend, or we can pair you up with a co-sponsor. To sponsor, or if you have questions, please contact Charlie at soc...@altshul.org.

3.    Saturday Morning Minyan, July 10, 10am
Altshul will meet Shabbat morning, July 10th in the Chapel at Beth Elohim. Kindershul will start at the beginning of the Torah services.

4.    Friday Night Minyan, July 16, 7pm
Altshul will meet Friday, July 16th for Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv at 7pm in the Beth Elohim Rotunda, downstairs in the Sanctuary Building located at 274 Garfield Place.

5.    Tisha Ba’av Eicha Reading, Monday, July 19, 8:30pm
In observance of Tisha Ba’av, Altshul will be hosting ma’ariv, and a reading of Megillat Eicha (The Book of Lamentations) and Kinot (liturgical poems) on Monday, July 19th at 8:30pm in the Beth Elohim Rotunda, downstairs in the Sanctuary Building, 274 Garfield Place, Brooklyn, NY 11215.  Please bring a flashlight to this service. A charity collection will be organized by the Social Action Social Justice Committee.

6.     Soil, Soul & Service at Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center
You're invited to join us for a three to six-night stay any time between June 28 – July 25 while we get our hands in the soil, engage our souls, and find ways to be of service to the world. There is no charge for your visit, all we ask is that you consider making a donation of $60 per night to cover our basic costs of housing and meals. In exchange for full use of our facility, we're asking for a few hours of your time each day to contribute to our work here at Isabella Freedman. Whether you help out in one of our gardens, pull weeds or harvest veggies on the farm, work in dining room or housekeeping, your contribution will be deeply appreciated. And while you’re here you’ll also have time to enjoy boating, fishing, use of our gym and hot tub, tennis, arts & crafts, guided hikes, farm and green tours. Enjoy delicious food from our organic farm, restore your body and spirit in a yoga or meditation class, relax in the sun, swim in the lake or pool, go for a hike in our 300-acre wooded land…or just sit by the lake and unwind. Visit www.isabellafreedman.org/soilsoulservice for more information.
