Who put together the last code camp and is anyone working on the next
one? the last one was mid-november 2008... I'm curious if there's any
similar effort in the works.

cheers

Chris Kinsman is the guy who's been setting them up for the last couple of
years. At the last one, I volunteered to help with this year but never heard
anything back.

Jason Maurer also sponsered the last one. Alas he and MS have parted
company. The rumor is there is one proposed for April. I've heard this
from both Walt Ritsher and Ted Neward. Walt is involved with
organizing it, and could use some help. Ted mentioned that they may
host it at the Commons rather than Digipen.

Ted Neward mentioned that there is a Seattle Code Camp being organized in April, over on the SeaFunc mailing list.

Indeed. Ken Levy is officially organizing speakers, but since I have “reach” into areas other than .NET, I’ve been going to some of the non-.NET groups and bringing it up.

Questions can go to me, to Ken, or to Chris Kinsman. For now, we don’t have exact dates yet, since we’re trying to see if we can get the Microsoft Commons area instead of Digipen. Haven’t heard anything beyond that as of today.

I think encouraging more non-.NET folks to come sound great. That kind of diversity is a big reason I’m looking forward to Codemash. The Commons would be a great place to host it. I would be worried (however) that it would make it seem “Microsoft driven”. At least Digipen was neutral territority.

On the other hand, the Commons is a very cool new addition to the campus that I (as a MSFT employee) would be stoked to share with others.

These were the same reasons I was concerned about the idea of alt.net
Seattle being at the commons. However it is a great space.

I'm planning to do a pretty hard blitz of the SeaJUG and Seattle XCoders
group to encourage them to come out and speak. A couple of XCoders are at
least interested, and (if I'm not traveling someplace that weekend) I'll
probably eschew .NET talks altogether in favor of C++/D or Java talks. I'm
also hoping that a few folks from the Seattle Functional users group
(SeaFunc) will come out as well.
