Hi all,

Thanks for joining the group. Setting it up is awfully easy. Now
comes the hard part - getting a goodly number of people to agree to be
in the same vicinity as charming local alcoholic beverages AND the
other people of the group. So here's are some suggestions for
discussion.

I'm thinking mid-week is probably better for most, but please chime in
if not. I'm going to make a starter suggestion of any of these dates
with a mooted start time of 6.30pm:

Wed 17th Feb
Thu 18th Feb
Tue 23rd Feb
Wed 24th Feb

If I can get an idea of how many are available on any of these, I can
get a room booked. If people prefer less formal, we can just agree to
turn up wearing pink carnations, or the geek equivalent (laptop bags
with a "C SPOT RUN" sticker). Leeds venue suggestions include:

- Scarboro Taps (can be crowded but is at least close to the station)
- The Victoria Hotel (helpfully arranged so we don't clash with Agile
Yorkshire, which certain of you may attend - has the advantage of
bookable rooms in case we'd want to)
- The Cross Keys (not too far a walk from the station and has a decent
probability of space upstairs without booking)
- North Bar (suitable for a smallish group only and really only here
because I like the beer)
- any others you feel might be more appropriate

Your thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Russ

I'm available for any of those dates and any of those venues; although I am flying to Texas at 8am on the 25th, so maybe drinking on the 24th wouldn't be a great idea (though I can do a coke).

I can't do the 17th but can do all the other days.  Any of the proposed venues look good, but I'd like to express a strong preference for being able to sit down!

Ok, well if there are sufficient takers I'll get a booking - under 6 and we can probably just rock up midweek at any of the larger venues.

Hey, we're not issuing armbands or anything!

That's meeting #2.

Any day but Wednesday is fine with me and good food would be nice.

Would you be bringing the desk with you Paul or have you found the key to release you from the chains that keep you at Choices at all hours?!

Either week is good for me.
Preference for Wednesdays; failing that Thursday is good too

Ok, well can't quite please all of the people, evidently, but it's
looking like the 23rd or 24th (Tobin stands a chance of being around
then) - preferably the 23rd because then James can actually drink -
hope Alan can still do this despite it being his third choice day!

If I can get a confirmation of numbers for the 23rd I can ring round
some venues and see if we can reserve some space.

Cheers,

Russell

Hi folks

Great stuff. I'm back on the 23rd, so I'm gonna do my best to get down for beers (and perhaps a smidgen of geek talk). Will be good to hook up with everyone.

I can do the 23rd.

The Adelphi or Victoria Hotel are both a good venues - the function
room at the Victoria is free and the Adelphi is £10.

There is a .NET slant at Agile Yorkshire this Wednesday
(www.agileyorkshire.org) if anyone is interested in coming along.

Once the alt.net.beers date is finalised I'll stick it up on the AY
mailing list too.

Cheers

I'm ok for the 23rd too.

Quietly hoping for another day of the week in future though :-)

Great news, I'll cast about for an appropriate venue then. And yes, will try to do another day in future, this is all about avoiding the Wed on this occasion ;)

I can do the 23rd but not the 24th as its TW geek night and a few
interesting people will be presenting.

That's cool, 23rd's already decided.  I'll rootle around for a venue this week.
