YOUR SAY ON “FOR A FIGHTING CHANCE”
“Your interesting comments on the role of Sam Rainsy and Mu Sochua are
well thought out. I want only to point out that Hun Sen still has all
the power including the power to kill, if he needs to do so, to
eliminate any real and potent opposition to his grip on power in
Cambodia, on behalf of the Vietnamese. Thus, both, Sam Rainsy and Mu
Sochua are useful to him, as opposition leaders.
Of course, as you have rightly pointed out, these two opposition
leaders are totally different in character as well as in potential to
challenge Hun Sen. Potentially, Mu Sochua is more dangerous for Hun
Sen, because she has more courage and has more serious support from
abroad, from Cambodians and non-Cambodians alike.
Hun Sen appears to be playing the right reformer card right. But, his
true colour will show up, if Mu Sochua becomes a real opponent to
challenge his power, not just potential. Then, Hun Sen will use all
his power to silence her including killing her. For the moment, Sam
Rainsy owes his life to his inherent and deep flaws in character as
well as his lack of political skills.
In other words, Sam Rainsy has survived so far, because of his
usefulness to Hun Sen as an opposition leader. Hun Sen can then say to
the international community that he believes in democracy, because he
allows opposition party to exist and challenge him, and he would add
(in his head) that as long as they are inefficient and inefficacious.”

“They seem to be a six and a half-a-dozen. Mu Sochua may deserve a
chance to lead, but up to now she has not proved that her commitment
to whatever she says is total, stretching far beyond a public
relations game for her own gain.”

“You are day dreaming. Cambodian leaders do have a strong record of
hanging on to their position until a destructive end. Their members
and supporters behave, and are treated, like slaves; and slaves, as
the African proverb says, do not choose their master.”
