Get ready to fight secrecy in 2013!
R2K 2013 Calendar
Dear friends of R2K,

It's been quite a year for Right2Know!

On the Secrecy Bill, our sustained pressure has resulted in several important victories, albeit not enough (See a breakdown of unmet demands here). The year ends with the Secrecy Bill headed for a final Parliamentary hurdle, and much work to be done!

In the past 12 months, we've seen other dodgy secrecy laws invoked, such as the National Key Points Act -- but at the same time, civil society has shown that it's ready to tackle this apartheid-era law!

We even saw the spectre of the so-called Intelligence Bill (or "Spy Bill", as we've called it), a draft law that would increase the mandate and power of securocrats to bug citizens' phone and email communication without oversight - but under public pressure, the "Spy Bill" appears to have been headed off for now.

And throughout the year, we've seen a growing consciousness across South Africa of the many threats to the free flow of information. Every day the struggle against secrecy grows stronger.

It's clear that 2013 will be a critical year for the right to know. There are plenty of threats to head off, and plenty of opportunities to continue to build a people's movement to strengthen the free flow of information. In short, let's work together to klap secrecy!

Thanks for your support this year! Let's take the right to know forward in 2013!
