R2K Freedom Film Festival

Friday marks the start of South African "Freedom Week" – 27 April (Freedom Day), 1 May (Worker’s Day) and 3 May (World Press Freedom Day). We are hosting public meetings, debates, and film screenings in celebration of the hard-fought battles to secure our freedoms, and to reflect on the ongoing struggle for social justice. Please support the events and tell others: raise your voices for the right to know!

FREEDOM DAY - FRIDAY 27 APRIL 2012
 
GAUTENG (9am-3.30pm): “Speak out on Secrecy” – public meeting in Kliptown. VENUE: Soweto Kliptown Youth, 29 Station Rd, Kliptown
 
KZN (9am-12pm): “UnFreedom Day March” – we are joining a march to City Hall. VENUE: Starts at Botha/King Dinuzulu Gardens, Durban.
 
WESTERN CAPE (9am-12pm): “Speak out on Secrecy” – public meeting in Langa. VENUE: Ikwezi Hostel, Zone 27, Langa
PRESS FREEDOM DAY - THURSDAY 3 MAY 2012

EASTERN CAPE (1pm-2pm): Launch of R2K "Info Is Power" Radio Hour. VENUE: Radio Grahamstown (102.1FM)
 
KZN (12pm-1pm):  Panel debate on Media Freedom. VENUE: Arthur Smith Hall, DUT City Campus, Durban.
 
KZN (12.30pm-2pm): "Fighting for the Right2Know" – public seminar on the Secrecy Bill, the Intelligence Bill and other threats to access to info.
VENUE: Centre for Civil Society, MT Building, UKZN, Durban.
 
WESTERN CAPE (4pm): Film Screenings: "The Most Dangerous Man in America” (followed by discussion with Ivor Powell, investigative journalist) and "Samstaan Again" (A short documentary about a small-town newspaper which rallied people together to fight Apartheid).
VENUE: The Labia Theatre, Orange St, Cape Town.

The Right2Know coalition in KZN cordially invites you to its fundraising dinner on Friday 4 May 2012. This event aims to raise vital funds to continue mobilising communities to fight for their right to know!

The R2K is hosting a mobile film festival in Cape Town as part of its national "Freedom Week". All the films will be accompanied by a brief discussion with R2K activists on the Secrecy Bill and other threats to our freedoms today. Any donations raised will fund further mobilisation for the R2K.
