Hello again altdev. I wrote a somewhat personal story about my experience with trolls and I'm not sure whether it's the sort of thing that belongs on altdev, but I figure I'll leave it here and see what people think.

PS: I got some amazing feedback on the math for game dev post and I still plan up rewriting that based on the feedback and posting it, (not to mention contributing to others posts) as soon as I get home from my european vacation. :)

Hi Jorge. All I can say is that some people really suck. I can't imagine reading stuff like that on a monthly basis. Jeez! :/

Anyway I think the article is written very well. We had fairly personal posts in the past, so in a way there is a precedence...

I'm confused, who is demu?

But regardless, my personal criteria for this site is that it has to be interested and related to game development, which to me this piece certainly is. I appreciated the story and think it would be good to get on the site.

Personally, if a comment is critical without any supporting evidence or valid criticism, then it isn't worth the time or effort. This is likely easy for me to say since I am not a designer or artist, so it is very rare that my actual work is being criticized. But I agree that if you feel proud of what you accomplished, then nobody can take that away from you. It is impossible for anyone outside the development team to understand the full picture, so they may not realize the tradeoffs that were weighed or what sacrifices were made just to make the product in the first place. And, as you mentioned, some people just like flinging mud to get a rise or just because the game didn't meet their arbitrary expectations they expect you to suffer for it. I totally sympathize with how it can wear on you over time and applaud you for your resolve to keep going.

Europe trip over! I'm not hearing any strong objections so I'll publish the article presently. Thanks to all for the feedback.

(demu is the person who I think has been sending me the messages, or at least orchestrating other people to also send me messages. I guess it's a bit of an inside joke.)
