For some reason the link keeps coming up without any article showing up (it is also taking a long time to load, as opposed to the main site). Not sure if the draft wasn't shared correctly or if the site is having technical issues.

And hello again,

I'm sharing my very first #Altdevblog draft!

It's shared for 7 days.

This article focuses on my opinion on the changes happening in the MMO publishing world, with the points:
  • Downfalls of old-school exclusive publishing
  • Modern day publishing concept
  • The relationship between publisher/developer
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

I reposted this on another topic, I couldn't edit the original post.

Well, it is an opinion piece about MMO publishing, so not anywhere near stuff that I have experience with. So I suppose I'll defer to your answers, but I would think that a lot of it boils down to "it depends." So depending on the game, the financial situation of the studio, etc etc, decides whether an exclusive deal makes sense. But I don't think that traditional publishers are going anywhere soon. We are seeing them lose some power, as you suggest, so there will likely be changes afoot such as those you mention.

Anyway, I have no issues or any further comments to really add. It is definitely interesting to hear more about the publishing side of things!

It's always good to hear the perspective inside different companies. Right or wrong, the perceptions are more important than reality: they impact on negotiations, budgets, etc. In that sense, it looks good (although I'd prefer some more concrete statements, it seems a bit vague right now)

That said, the content of this post is nearly identical to what we were saying back in 2008 when I worked at an MMO publisher. We were one of the biggest ones, so perhaps ahead of the curve?, but I was surprised how little the perspectives seem to have changed.

For the games I work with, most of this certainly has changed - but I have a narrow view these days. I would love to know more about the specific markets being talked about here - even better: some stats to inform and correlate the statements in this post would be great.
