My travels around the conceptual framework of conservation have sometimes led me to little dead ends, thoughts that start then stop abruptly. I realized these might also be called aphorisms, pithy statements of a general (if sometimes outdated) truth. Not sure but here is some of what I've collected:

     - In conservation the first step is stop.

     - There is no heroic preventive care.

     - The treatment only ends when the conservator rests easy at night... and that's never.

     - Young conservators question; old conservators accept.

     - B72 is not edible.

Do you have any?

Dennis,

How about:

     - In conservation thinking is sometimes the best treatment.

"The best lesson taught to a conservator
is the worst treatment they performed."

This is adapted from the saying about writers:
"The best thing that happens to writers
is the worst thing they survive."
