Hi,

Altapoint released its Medical v.7 upgrade in July. I'm curious to
hear if anyone has successfully upgraded yet to that version on a
client/server setup -- including converting v.6 data?

Thank you,

Greg

Although V7 is officially released it is still in the preliminary
stages of implementation. I expect that 1 or 2 more service packs will
be needed before it is ready for prime time.

OK. I am in no rush. We are still finding odd glitches that did not
convert over from Lytec to Altapoint - incorrect balances showing up
in Altapoint on accounts that were fully paid. Doctors upin numbers
not coming over, etc. So we are still digging into the old Lytec
files for the specific input and brinking Altapoint 6.0 up to date.

I am happy to be not on the bleeding edge and wait for the service
packs to have settled things down a bit.

New news - bad news - in process. CMS has a new rule that says that
if you make a change, e.g. to a new billing service, you have to put
in a new application. Everyone who puts in a new application must
receive payment via EFT. I don't want to do this. I do not like to
have my bank account numbers listed in someone else's database,
especially just because all I did was change my billing
service. (Sheila had not heard about this, by the way.) All my
payments have come for years to my P.O. Box. So...... after long
arguments with NHIC, they have referred me directly to CMS. I have
to tackle them next. The new application requires, for example, that
I provide a letter from the IRS confirming that my fed tax employer
id number is valid - which I have been using with NHIC for 28
years. This is more than the tail wagging the dog. And it takes a
horrendous amount of time.

My 'threat' to them is that they may well make things so unpleasant
for me that I will quit - and that will leave this two county region
without a neurologist. People will have to travel three to four
hours to the next nearest one. And, I will be sure to let my rep and
my senator and the local papers know the reason I quit, if it comes
to that. I am really ticked. So, I am cooling down, reviewing the
papers and plan to tackle CMS and see if we can have a little sanity
instead of bureacratic idiocy.

Service Packs? What service packs? Altapoint doesn't seem to have
service packs for their v.7 install and data conversion. They have
posted v.7 program updates on their website -- many versions -- up to
7.00.19 now (that's 19 updates since July)!

4 months have gone by since v.7 was released. Seems like a long
preliminary stage, and still they're not ready for prime time. But,
worse, they don't admit it -- or at least describe on their website
where they're at and reveal bug-fixes, open issues, etc.

So, another couple of months go by . . . . how are people doing with
upgrading to Altapoint Medical v. 7 ? I see the latest version is
7.00.25 on their website.
