All,

Here is a quick picture of my setup with an LCD panel, without case whatsoever, I ordered from AliExpress (about $40 total with shipping). It works well. The panel's controller board takes VGA and HDMI in. The display has a 1024x768 resolution (4x3 aspect ratio). It would be nice to make/print an enclosure for it at some point.

The keyboard is a fancy USB mechanical keyboard I am trying from a friend. It had no problem being recognized by the VT100 emulator.

Hi,

I have a keyboard like that on my workstation.  IF you hook it up to the PC and run the software you can set the background color, but IF you like flashy lights, you don't need the PC to just make a few changes;  try the Fn key with PS, SL,INS, DEL etc. keys to change the lighting patterns.

That's a nice neat little screen, what's the link to buy one?

The link:

I used the "Driver A and LCD" option.

(With the caveats of ordering directly from China. This said, I haven't had issues with AliExpress so far.)

Do you know the manufacturer/model of the mechanical keyboard?  I've had a few people ask if one will work with my kit.

Hi,

I got mine from WalMart.com ... it's a ONN. brand, but you can find them in shops all over the internet under dozens of different brands.

I'm lucky, I got mine for FREE being a preferred reviewer for WalMart.  The USB out is standard PC keyboard codes, nothing fancy, but internally, it also receives data from the computer to alter the color patterns etc.

Mechanical keyboards these days are a sort of Wild West with lots of obscure brands.

The keyboard pictured happens to be a RENAULT gaming keyboard. [1] I tried two RENAULT and they worked. I also tried a small macro keyboard, which used the QMK firmware, and it appears to work fine as well. On the other hand I tried an ABKO Hacker mechanical keyboard and it didn't work.

From Amazon:

Redragon K617 Fizz 60% Wired RGB Gaming Keyboard, 61 Keys Compact Mechanical Keyboard w/White and Grey Color Keycaps, Linear Red Switch, Pro Driver/Software Supported

It was cheap enough, small enough, and works, but implementation of arrow keys (fn+WASD) is a bit odd.
