I picked this up at VCFMW last weekend.  Anyone interested in an Arduino-based 680?

I think that could be fun. I've almost bought one of these on EBay in the past, but even the one I saw that was literally nothing but lights and switches still had an exorbitant asking price.

This one is in great shape.  The guy I bought it from inspects and refurbishes old computers.  I got an H19 terminal and this 680 from him.  It has a 64k memory board in it.  Mike Douglas has some great resources on his site, so one of the first things I was to try is loading Altair Basic from paper tape.

Wow nice! When you say "new" you mean "old", right? :-)

One thing I've learned from the Mike Douglas videos is that the 680 is rather limited compared to the 8800, but gosh darn it's cute! An Arduino one would be nice for realz.

I'd buy one! Of course, I'd buy almost any computer from that era.

Of course I would buy one.  Love building and programming computer kits. My fun retirement projects.

Of course I’ve been building 8800s in every version available.  First bamboo, then the io board, then the working buss.

On the other side I’ve been building Dec 8, 10, and 11 from obsolescenceguaranteed.com.  Oscar puts together a beautiful kit.

Of course the Kenback and Kim-1 are out there too.  Kenback is Arduino, and at adwatersndstir.com.  Kim-1 is pi based, and at obsolescence.

I had never heard of an Altair 680.

Hi,

Who's the guy you bought it from? Got an email address?  Website URL?

I would LOVE an Arduino 680. Yes I know the 680 had issues... but it would still be awesome to have one.

Could it be this one?….

Walt, here's the guy I bought it from: https://bonuslifecomputers.com/

Richard, this is an original 680.  The 680 kit you linked hasn't been available since 2012, but Grant keeps the sites up because there's a lot of good information there.

Hi,

Thanks ... it was somebody else pointing to Grant's emulated Altair 680 kits ... I

'm not particularly interested since I have an Arduino DUE programed for an emulated Altair 680 and found the "Tiny BASIC" included can't even count to 10,000 without making serious mistakes in simple counting and addition!

OTOH, Mike Douglas verified the same program works perfectly with his real Altair 680 computer showing the emulator is flawed and has never been certified.

Walt, the second comment was for Richard.  The first was in response to your question.

Like everything else you offer Chris - I'll take at least two :)
