Hello again,
I could not refuse an offer on ebay for a Wyse WY-150 serial terminal.
I found the necessary extras (Wyse keyboard, standard DB25/DE9 cable,
DE9/DE9 null modem adapter). As far as I know the terminal works fine.
I can access the setup mode, and the function keys of the keyboard seem
to be working. However, I cannot get the terminal to display any connection
to the AD. I wish I had a breakout box or a serial data analyzer, but I don't
have that luxury.
Is there anyone out there who has a WY-150 ( or other Wyse model) that
has experience with the AD? I've got it setup for 9600 8N1 full duplex, as
directed. It is also setup as a VT100 "personality". There are quite a few
other settings in the terminal setup. Can someone help me troubleshoot
the communication issue?

The Altair-Duino should be wired as a DCE device (Data Communication Equipment, aka "modem.") so your terminal should use a straight-through RS-232 cable.

One thing to check is to confirm that you have hardware flow control (DTE/DCE, DSR/CSR) turned OFF. Software flow control (XON/XOFF) is safe.

You can also do a quick loopback check with a paper clip: bridge pins 2 and 3 in the serial connector on the terminal, then type. You should  see your typing show up on the screen.

Problem solved! Loopback test worked.
I removed the null modem adapter and attached the
serial cable at both ends. I turned on XON/XOFF for
receive and transmit. I did not find a setting for switching
hardware flow control - on OR off. I don’t believe I changed
anything else - but it worked. I don’t why. Maybe the serial
cable needed to be reseated!? Thanks.
