Dear ALTA community,

We are seeking a capable educator to develop a two-day natural language processing workshop for academics and research students at the University of Sydney, and to co-deliver it in person with one of our trainers in January or March 2020. Applicants should expect to work a few days a week (up to full time) on this starting November or December 2019 and deliver a first run of the course in person.

The applicant should:

  • Have experience as a workshop trainer/facilitator and in developing materials for presentation
  • Have experience in developing and delivering training involving coding exercises, especially live coding, in the style of Software/Data Carpentry Workshops.
  • Be familiar with diverse NLP solutions and how to use them in Python.
  • Understand the challenges that language presents to computation, quantification and machine learning.
  • Be familiar with some research applications that may use language or text as data

We have tried to give you a picture of what we’re looking for by preparing a training brief, including a possible curriculum and a description of the personas who might sign up for the workshop. It is attached.
