National ICT Australia (NICTA) is Australia's ICT Research Centre of
Excellence. NICTA aims to bring together world-class researchers and
professional staff, enhance their skills, and build a culture of
entrepreneurship and achievement in use-inspired research that will
build Australia's ICT capacity.
We are seeking a Researcher for a project in Text Mining for
Biomedical Applications. The successful candidate will work with an
existing team---of researchers, software engineers, University
of Melbourne research students, and collaborators from biomedical
partners---in developing new techniques in Language Technology
and Text Mining of value to biomedical and genomic researchers.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science,
Computational Linguistics, Computational Biology, or a related
field, with a proven research contribution in the topic areas of
this project. Strong programming skills and text mining expertise
are essential. Expertise in machine learning or probabilistic
techniques is desirable. Good communication and teamwork skills are
also essential; previous experience in biomedical applications and
a demonstrated history of innovation are highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience in developing research agendas and
supervising research students would be a bonus.
Terms:
This is a contract position of up to 3 years, potentially renewable,
to commence in late 2011 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
