Dear ALTA members,
I am writing to seek your support for a proposed update to the ALTA constitution regarding the Treasurer role.
Under the current constitution, the Treasurer is elected. In practice, however, this role has typically been filled through appointment by the Executive Committee, with the appointee serving multiple terms (typically 2-3). Given the importance of the position and the need for continuity and trust, we are proposing to formally align the constitution with this long-standing practice by specifying that the Treasurer is appointed rather than elected.
To enact this change, we are holding a referendum. I encourage you to review the proposed amendments (details below) and cast your vote. All current members (i.e. those who joined before 8 July 2026) are eligible to vote. If you do not have a preference, please select “Abstain”. We ask that all members participate in the vote, as doing so also confirms your ALTA membership. In line with Clause 2 of the constitution, members who do not respond may be removed after six months, and won't be included in the total number of members eligible to vote for this referendum.
The process should only take a few minutes, and your participation is greatly appreciated. The deadline for casting your vote is 5 August 2026 (4 weeks from today). We’ll send another reminder email before the deadline.
