In hatha yoga you may hear about purification
of the nadis. The nadis are subtle nerve currents that must be re-opened
again to the state they were in when you were a child so energy can flow
freely. This is equivalent to taking down the walls. One of the first
signs
of purification of the nadis is spontaneous crying - from some simple
stupid thing. A shocker to a guy who simply holds back some tears and
is in wonder how long it has been since that happened. I have never
heard of crying from child pose. But tratak - while supposedly a simple
gazing exercise we are told in Hatha Yoga Pradipika to 'put in your
treasure box.' Sivananda makes more of tratak than simple gazing to
tears and as a jump-off point into concentration. The body stores
stress. A very harmful substance released into the bloodstream along
with adrenalin is cortisol. Cortisol is a number one killer of brain
cells.
It is a carry over from our primodial watering hole days we would all
be better off without today. Exercise burns off stress. Hatha yoga
stimulates the glands. (and similarly releases stress) In fact I would
go so far as to say that upon becoming adept at hatha yoga a person
increases their capacity for storing stress and unloads it during
hatha yoga. Get downright cranky missing hatha yoga/addicted to
this relief. Pranayama then increases energy further. Pranayama is
the primary means for nadi purification.
Another sign of nadi purification is sudden
outbursts of a fine sheen of sweat all over your body. You become
more sensitive to things. Children find you more approachable as
they recognize more openness. They can see your head is not in the
clouds/with an uncertain concern most adults wear. They can see you
eye to eye and do not fear you. Your aura is not a dim gray cloud.
If your nadis are becoming purified you should avoid any and all
things that disturb you - like horror movies or anything with a lot
of violence. Looking at aesthetically pleasing things and harmonious
music are beneficial. Windows Media player art for example. Going
with sensations in concentration. Being more open naturally also
means you have to be more careful. Crying can simply be a glandular
thing as well.
What sorts of postures do you do preceding child pose? Inverted
postures - nothing happens then? It is entirely likely you have
already found the answer yourself. I once asked Robert Sapalsky in
an email about crying (a famous neuroscientist) but that must not
have been his area. I think crying as a stress reliever should be
studied more.

Dear Mike,
it can have several reasons why you cry during those pose.
Best is you find out yourself.
Have you ever talked about this to yourself?
You can talk to your crying.
What do you feel when you cry?
Do you enjoy it? Do you feel released while you do it?
Then tell your crying: "Crying, I enjoy you. I feel released with you."
And observe what happens while you said this.
How do you feel after you honestly said this to your crying?
Maybe you realize then that there has been tension before in you.
So you can talk to your tension.
"Tension, I feel you now."
You can also realize where in your body this tension is located.
If you feel it for example in your stomache you can say
"Tension I can feel in you in my stomache"
Or if you feel it in your heart you can possibly say something - "tension, i
feel you in my heart."
You can also have an inner image of certain organs.
Visualize your heart for example.
How does it looks like?
It can look like a natural heart-muscle, but it also can be a
comic-character, or a colour, or a person - whatever you imagine.
Then, in your imagination, you can touch your heart, feel it.
Does it feel cold or warm?
Do you like touching it?
And you can talk to your heart.
"Heart I see you now and I feel you."
And how do you feel in the presence of your heart?
Tell it: "Heart I feel ...... in your presence."
And you can ask questions.
-------
And so on.
The more trained you are in having this inner dialogue you are able to
really talk with that what is within yourself.
This is just an example how an inner dialogue can take place.
You are absolutely fee to create your own inner dialogue.
This will - as Yoga too - give you more access to your inner world.
It's a very rich and colourfull world and it is worth to be traveled!
In fact it is the greatest adventure to travel this world!
I wish you a beautiful and exciting trip! :-)))

Is it necessary to understand and classify.? If you force some
understanding on the situation all that will happen is that you
will make up a story (which are always short of the truth). Just
take it the way it is. I guarantee it will pass and you will move on
to something else. Become too attached to the situation and it
will take longer to leave.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their thoughtful responses. I
continue to cry during this pose and am going with it and enjoying the
release.
Oh, I wish I could recreate this on command... however, I think it is just best
left untouched... and let it come as it chooses.
Great responses to this person's question.... just thought I would share my
experiences.
Thanks.
I've heard that the musulature is a repository for emotions that have
been held in and not properly released. There are years of emotions,
pain, and experiences contained in your musculature. Often during
yoga or a stretching-type of exercise, the work you are doing on your
muscles releases the emotion. This happens to me sometimes when I
open my chest.
By the way, I'm not the be-all end-all and this is only information
I've collected, nothing I've discovered on my own. Take it or leave
it as you see fit.
Good luck and happy crying!
