There are lots of ways of doing it. My recommendation would be a cname.
Others might disagree.

I'd agree, though this method involves the co-operation of both hosts.

Yes, but that will only work if isp-host.com is willing to add the
appropriate virtualhost to their webserver config. I don't think many
of the major ones will, as its most probably not supported by their
automated hosting systems and thus would need (expensive) manual work.
At the very least it'd cost rather more than isp-host.com's basic
webspace arrangement, which will be what OP's wife currently has.
Best thing in these circumstances IMO is via a .htaccess (or related)
redirect, which turns the domain site into a "hopping stone" to push the
users across to the actual site.
The best method of all of course is to have the domain properly hosted
as a virtualhost on the webserver, which would probably mean moving the
actual site to the domain provider's webservers. Then the domain site
would be the website, all right and proper.

Which is why we provide free hosting with domain names to get round the
problem (for small sites anyway).
The problem is the punters want redirection so we had to add that and very
few people now bother using the free space.
Which is not a bad thing as far as our backups are concerned, but its an
interesting vote with feet.
