Abjured: renounced under oath; recanted solemnly. Abandoned; disallowed;
disavowed; disclaimed; deserted; gave up; recanted; rejected; renounced;
repudiated. "I know that I told the police I did it, but I didn't kill him,"
abjured Erica tearfully, "I didn't kill him!"
Gasped: drew in one's breath sharply as from shock or surprise. Gulped;
panted; wheezed. "You scared the heck out of me," gasped the startled woman.
Philosophized: set forth or expressed a moralistic, often superficial love and
pursuit of wisdom or knowledge. Idealized; moralized; rationalized; reasoned;
theorized. "The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled,"
philosophized Plutarch.
