I went to Cambridge University between 1981 - 1986 and I know some
movers and shakers (although they often pretend they don't know me).
If you need access to the following people it would have to be for a
good reason. (Of course if they ever see this they have further reason
to disown me). I am on first name terms with all of them (or I was
once).
Andrew Rawnsley. Political commentator for The Observer. Was an editor
of the Student Newspaper when I was Arts Editor.
Caroline Kerr. Erstwhile correspondent for ITN. Currently "relaxing"
(?), Student editor.
Nigel Morris. Leader writer for The Independent. Student Editor
Derek MacCauley. Microsoft Professor. Former flatmate.
David Sharrock. Times journalist. Correspondent for both Northern
Ireland and Israel at times in his career and they were the toughest
assignments there are. Student Editor.
Gideon Rachman. Financial Times columnist on North American politics.
Student Editor.
Professor Baronet Julian Hunt. Head of the Met Office in the 90s. My
Ph.D. examiner and someone I currently do research work for.
Various FRSes too numerous to mention. All in the subject of Fluid
Mechanics.
I know a few people in the BBC but nobody very senior. Also a couple of
authors you never heard of.
If you have a story for the British Press I would be only too happy to
pass it on to one of my friends. Its good kudos for me and it might
make things easier for you.
