I am in need of antiqued black carriage bolts

Is there anyone out there who knows the recipe for antiquing bolts to
include the type of metal the bolt is made of and how to antique them?
And if not that, does anyone know of a source for the required bolts?

Thanks very much for your help.

You need steel bolts, no plating. Heat them with a torch and you can
get a multi colored (blue through black) oxide. Gunsmith bluing will
also give a blue/black color. Not sure exactly what you're looking for
under the heading of antique but blue/black is easy to achieve with a
propane torch on a steel bolt.

An addendum. If you find galvanized bolts and can't find plain steel,
the zinc plating is readily? removed with muriatic acid. An outdoor
project only.
