CIRCLE (AP) — The predator that has attacked more than 100 sheep in
McCone and Garfield counties since late December has struck again,
Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials said.
Two more sheep were killed about 20 miles northwest of Circle on
Saturday, the first reported attack in about a month. FWP officials
believe the predator likely is a wolf or wolf-dog hybrid.
''If it?s a wolf, it?s a smaller wolf,?? Jon Trapp, a wolf-management
specialist for FWP, said Monday. The animal?s tracks are smaller than a
typical wolf?s, he said. Also, it often eats the back end of a kill
first in a style more typical of a coyote.
