Big dispute over this in our town... There is a Thomas Kincaid art gallery...
the paintings are very expensive... I guess these artisans come in every
couple of months and "touch" up the paintings.. brightening the lights on them.
Anyway the owner of the gallery happened to find a bunch of Kincaid paintings
on sale at Sams at greatly discounted prices... while the art shop owner is
contracted to sell the same paintings for very high prices. He is closing his
store and suiing Kincaid for fraud and something like unjustly competing.
Also.. according to the art shop owner.. the newer paintings he has received
are of poor quality and on the back they are numbered, and signed by Kincaid,
but also say something about apprentice assistance. I think the gig is up for
Tom.

They were selling these "touched up" pieces on the cruise ships, practically
giving them away. The auctioner called them mixed media BUT not necessarily by
Kincaid himself. WTF?
I have a few mixed media pieces by Peter Max, they are all authentic and hand
signed by Peter Max. I think I'll stick with him <G>

Yeah but there are the original works of art -- and then prints form that. You
can't sell more than one 'original painting'....but you can sell endless
numbers of prints.
Doesn't Thomas Kincaid do one painting and then they make a number of prints
based on advanced orders on that print and whatever they decide.

Best I can tell .. he makes a painting... then makes prints from that.. Then
his "apprentices" go around and splash some yellow points of lights on the
prints and they pass these off as originals too.

He has all these people painting his stuff, and he just signs his name.
Ikinda lost respect for him after that.
If he's gonna sell "copies", then he should copy his sig too. If it aint
original, dont sign!

Now that's just not right.
But you know once someone gives it a title of 'collectible' -- it doesn't
matter what the item is or what its real value. It somehow gets value just by
the collectible nature of the item (i.e. Beanie Babies -- LOL).

Sure seems that way, doesn't it....he lives near this area. His website gives
explanations of what is done. kinda strange if you ask me...he has people he
calls "Master Highlighters"..I found on his official website.
www.thomasKinKade.com (not kincaid..) I do know the artsyfartsyartworld &
others are not happy with him..but I do think he does beautiful work! (don't
own any tho..just like to look at em) I've seen him on QVC when they do LIVE
shows with him.

Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Print. It was NOT cheap at all. Unframed. I
still have to get it framed. After framing it will be over $1000 dollars for
it. It did come with the COA and all the documents. I have also ordered the New
York 5th Ave Print on Canvas Limited Edition Signed and Numbered 18 X 24
Gallery Framed with the free oil highlighting (which usually costs $100
more...long story behind how I am getting it done for free) This too will come
with COA and all the paperwork. This is $1200. Long story short, anyone that
collects Kinkaid knows that his stuff is mass produced and none of it is
origional. The value of them though still holds strong and actually increases
because there are a limited number of each print made. i.e sizes, variations of
the print, etc. I mean, I wouldn't expect to pay $1200 for the real
thing....but I am perfectly happy with what I am getting and I am getting it
because it's something I like. Plus, in time the value will increase. There are
only 2500 of these made in the world in the size and edition that I have and am
getting, so I know after they sell out there will be no more made.
People suing should know these things.

I agree Tina, BUT, you are not getting Kincade, you are getting something he
created and someone else highlighted. Alot of people that spend that kind of
money actually THINK Kincade is doing the work....

They should do thier homework then. I bought these prints from the galleries
and they were very up front in telling me how they were made. He did do the
original, then mass produced the rest, in limited quantities. If the people
selling them are not being honest then they are at fault, but as consumers they
should do a little research too and make sure they know what they are buying.
One does not invest in a car without doing homework first, just like art...if
you are going to spend 1200, or 12,000 on a painting you better make sure you
have your homework done.
Like I said, I collect his work because I like it. Not because I think it's
going to be worth something one day, if so great. The 3 that I have thus far
(not the one I have ordered) are lighthouse prints. I like them because I like
the New England type of style he has put in them, with the sailboats, and light
houses. I guess it's all personal preference.

It looks like we're collecting hand weights. When we first started walking we
used 1 lb. weights. Then uped it to 2 lbs. Now we use 3 lb. weights and thats
as heavy as I want. I do like them though.
