Go take a look at the "I hate your guts, eat my cum" post in
comp.os.ms-windows.apps that some friendly
aol'er posted, or how about the post in this very newsgroup just 2 days
ago from another aol pinhead who posted "Looking for Babes in the Twin
Cities Area" or something to that effect. I have only had access to the
internet for a couple of months, so I'm certainly not one of the net
"elitists", nor am I torqued that there are "new kids on the playground".
I'll be the first to agree that not aol'ers are shit heads, but this
constant defense of aol as just a bunch of poor innocent newbies is a
bunch of crap.

As I see it, the problem with some of these AOL lusers is that they went out
and got themselves a shiny new computer that had AOL pre-installed. This shiny
new computer replaces the machine they had been using for local BBS calling and
the like, where dickheaded behavior and childishness are the norm.

Needless to say, when they found AOL and USENET Newsgroups, these same dickhead
lusers realized that they could be dickheads on a worldwide basis! (this is
akin to the boobs who call CNN during an earthquake and give out Howard Sterns
phone number.)

Basically, one treats these lusers on the Net as one would treat them locally,
ignore them and they'll eventualy go away or find Alt.Tasteless.

(oh, why am I on AOL. It's the only game in town. There's only a SprintNet node
in town and NO other way of jacking into the Net locally. Sucks, don't it?)

Why not try Delphi? Sure it isn't a pretty as AOL, but it's cheaper and
you can access it via SprintNet!

True, one can hit Delphi via SprintNet. However, since I'm on an AOL
Ambassador account, I don't pay the monthly sunscription fee.

Then there's the fact that Delphi never got back to me on my request
for information about them.

If they can't bother to send me info, I can't be bothered to send
them money.

You could also log onto Delphi immediately for 5 free hours. Just
dial by modem 1-800-365-4636, press return once or twice, at Username,
enter JOINDELPHI and at the password enter WRD46 (The WRD46 even keeps
us on topic because it shows you got the password from WIRED magazine!).
Of course you will need have a credit card, but they will let you know
when your 5 hours are up and not charge you a penny is you wish to
discontinue. Granted, I found it very difficult to get around at first,
but it did encourage me to learn more about DOS and UNIX. Learning Delphi
's system 1st, made it easier for me to learn the free system I
have through the school system in which I am a teacher with.

Delphi plans on using more of a graphics interface like AOL has, but many
of us on Delphi prefer they stick with the cheaper interface./edit

AOL is not so bad, it has it's good points. Ive been a subscer for years,
I have met a lot of good people on AOL. Sure it has its share of losers and
morons but you will find that any where. You have to be mature enough to over-
look those types.

I'm not on either, but I had serious problems with Delphi when I tried
them out a couple of years ago. First, they charged me for the 4-hour
account plus the hourly fee when I ordered the 20-hour account. Second,
they continued to bill me, even after I cancelled and repeatedly asked
them to stop. Third, when I talked with a "customer service"
representative, he said that they wouldn't recognize my cancellation
because I wrote them a letter and also cancelled online. He said that
they wouldn't recognize the cancellation unless I called their office
and TOLD them. Horse hockey.

Finally, had to change my credit card number and report them to my
local District Attorney for consumer fraud, whereupon they
finally stopped submitting monthly charges to my card and refunded a
part of my money. The remainder wasn't much, so I decided to let the
matter drop, even though they ripped me off.
