to explain better, I have tried useing the start up disk, then useing a and
c : i typed "setup" and it comes up bad command, so I tried "setup win",
the cab files are there in the windows folder. I know i am doing
something wrong but what, i am not sure. How do i go about reinstalling
over the other windows. Reason I am doing this, is because it win95 is
crashing everytime i dial up, and it takes every thing with it.
I just what to overwrite the old one with a fresh install, with out lose
the othere programs. Also this is being done on my lap top without a cd.

Try just simply doing a good, thorough cleanup of your existing win95.
Put aside a couple of hours to do it well, get yourself some coffee, and
just sit down & do it. DO NOT EVER do any of the steps in a hurry!!
But know that the time is coming when you're going to have to flatten it
and start all over, reloading everything. Might as well start planning for
that now, or soon. Decide which files you want to save (NOT programs,
but YOUR files, like letters to your cousin, or Quicken financial-data files).

Click on this link for cleanup steps that I've found work well both with my
own computers and friends and customers', and does things thoroughly
and safely.

Save your registry files. Also the system .ini files
If you don't know what they are, run sysedit
It will show you the 5 five files you need.

I just reinstalled win95 and lost all my settings because I had not
backed up these files. Now most of my programs won't run because the
new registry does not recognise them. I have to reinstall them all.

I did not lose any programs or any files. But they are no longer
recognised.
