I lost my Windows 95 CD.

I would like to know if I can get another for free.

I still have my user book and my certificate of authenticity with the product ID.

Please email me at scik...@yahoo.com

thanks a lot

You will have to call microsoft, but I doubt they will send it.

I doubt it somehow, 'cos I could "lose" my CD for about £30 and be
very happy about it.
I'm not trying to cast aspersions on you, it's just that that's
probably the way that Microsoft see it.
They would be the best people to contact regarding this.

I definitely would call Microsoft and ask for a new CD. The way I see it is
that you bought a license to use their program and that the CD is only the
medium to get it onto your system.
Consider if the dog chews it up so it's unusable, or it got crisped
sitting in the sun too long. Should you have to buy a new one?
If you do pursue the matter I hope you'll keep this NG informed.
Thanks,

I think that normally MS will replace a damaged disk on an exchange basis
because it is easy to prove that it is damaged, but lost disk ... I wish you
luck. I think you have a valid case for a replacement given that you pay
for the right to use the software. As you hold the license agreement, you
should still have that right. The only charge that would be reasonable
would be for the cost of the physical disk and some handling charges. Of
course, M$ may see it differently. Let us all know the outcome.

I really doubt that you will be able to get one for free, in spite of
having your COA. It is the user's responsibility to store media in a
safe place. They didn't lose it for you.
It is an expensive lesson to have learned, and should never happen
again.

We have had several companies give us new media with a license number.
They dont care, as long as you paid for it and registered the software.
Never tried Microsoft, but they should fall in line with the industry,
right <g>

Do you have a second CD? There was a thread here not long ago to the
effect that if the first CD becomes damaged, the second CD can be used
to reinstall Win 95 instead. Certain files have to be copied somewhere
first. I have a reminder note about it in Win 95 (I'm in Win 3x at
present).

Should MS pay for someone else's stupidity ? Take responsibility for your
own actions. You buy a license, you get the media. You destroy/lose the
media, license is null and void. MS fulfilled their part of the contract.
Chalk it up to experience, but don't expect someone else to pay for your
mistake.

The license is still entirely valid, and Microsoft will replace the
media for a nominal charge. I've never found a software company that
wouldn't do the same. It will still cost something, but it will be
much less that buying a whole new copy and license from scratch. Under

some special circumstances, at their discretion, they will send it
out at no charge.
