I had setup my direct cable connect properly and got my lap to connect
with my PC. However, right after it connects, the computer attempts
to look for my shared file which I have enabled. The computer comes
back with an error message saying it can not find my shared folder and
that the host computer does not exist. Any suggestions.

First, do you have a your drive shared, also, did you enable file and
print sharing?
humm, did you name your host machine, and not key it into to the guest?
more details of what you did do would help to answer your probelm. :)

I had the file shared (little hand), but not the drive. How do you do
that? It didn't say I had to do that, just the file.

Not sure about this either. Tell me how you did this?
I just followed the setup. It configured my host and client. I had
to install the Microsoft sharing file protocol in Network. It didn't
ask me to name a drive or anything to do with a drive. But I think
that would help greatly. It just asked for which file you want to
share. I did like it said. It connects with a timer, but it doesn't
give me a second drive to work with or anything. It sits there saying
connected, but nothing else. I even checked my Explorer and File
Manager for changes, but nothing. I even try to look up or map the
network drive. NADA.
Thanks
Try unhiding the icon and reattempting the direct cable connect.
Best of luck
